Tour description

The high Julian Alps were populated as early as the Bronze Age, throughout the Roman period and in the early Middle Ages, as shown by the latest archaeological finds in the areas of Pokljuka, the Triglav mountains, Komna and the lower Bohinj mountains. These archaeological sites, marked also by the rich cultural and natural heritage, are part of the Železna pot (Iron Route), a high mountain hiking trail within the international Iron Route project. The route from Vogel to Komna leads through the recently discovered sites from the Iron Age to the early Middle Ages.

The 7:45 meeting place is at the lower cable car station at Vogel, continued by the 8:00 cable car ride to Vogel. From there we walk to Zadnji Vogel, where we visit the first archaeological point from the Late Antique period. On our way to the Kal pasture we see the remnants of mining, and upon coming to Kal a post from the Bronze Age and a ground plan of a building from the early Middle Ages. The route continues by crossing Konjsko sedlo to arrive to the Za Migovcem Pasture, which features several finds from the Roman period. After crossing Krošnja we arrive at the Govnjač pasture, where architectural remnants from the first World War can still be easily observed. After a short break at Komna we descend to Savica Waterfall, arriving there late in the afternoon.
